Hardus Viljoen will miss the Specsavers County Championship fixture versus Worcestershire due to a minor injury.

The 28-year-old, who took six wickets in the Royal London One-Day Cup campaign, picked up a hip flexor injury towards the end of the competition.

Director of Cricket, Kim Barnett, said: “Hardus slipped at Blackpool which caused a soreness in his hip. He has tried to play through with it, but the injury hasn’t settled since.

“He did a very commendable thing and tried to come back early, knowing the Club were short of new-ball bowling through injuries, with Will Davis also out.

“He wanted to play and provide a greater threat in the opening ten overs, an area we struggled in during the games he missed.

“A committed professional, Hardus wants to be out there and contributing in each and every game. He understands the pressure and is keen to get on the pitch and take wickets.

“However, he isn’t 100% and the next time he plays we want him to be fully fit to do himself justice.

“He is being monitored by the Club’s medical staff and his recovery will be on a week-by-week basis, with the aim to get him back bowling at 90mph.

“We have good depth in our bowling and the guys who have done well in the second team will now get their opportunity.”

Fellow pace bowler, Will Davis, continues his rehabilitation following a side injury.
