David Wainwright scored 92 not out in his first game since recovering from injury as Derbyshire Seconds drew their friendly with Northamptonshire.

Tom Poynton and Tom Knight both scored centuries during the first innings on Day Two, but another strong batting performance from Northants meant that Derbyshire were set 361 to win.

Greg Cork and Matt Critchley took two wickets apiece, whilst Wainwright, Chesney Hughes and Harry White returned 1-60, 1-42 and 1-25 respectively before the hosts declared on 276-7 on the morning of Day Three.

Derbyshire lost early wickets in their pursuit of victory, but Greg Cork and Wainwright steadied the innings for Derbyshire, sharing a 105-run partnership that helped secure the draw.

Cork was eventually out for a well-made 70 from 86 balls, but Rob Hemmings continued the good work to score 28 to see Derbyshire through to close.

The visitors closed on 221-8 with Wainwright unbeaten on 92 alongside Ben Cotton who was three not out before the two teams shook hands and settled for a draw.
