Warwickshire Second XI dominate Day Two

Alfie Gleadall took two wickets and Rahib Ali hit 40, but Derbyshire trail Warwickshire by 209 runs at the close on Day Two of the Second XI Championship fixture at Portland Road.

Liam Banks and Matt Lamb built a 194-run partnership but Greg Cork made the breakthrough as he had Banks caught by Tom Milnes for a well-made 181 which included 25 fours and six sixes.

Lamb reached 113 before Alex Wyatt had him caught in the  87th over as Milnes took his second catch of the day.

Alex Mellor brought up his half-century from 66 balls including nine fours, before he was out for 94 as Alfie Gleadall (2-120) bowled him to take his second wicket of the innings. Aaron Thomason added 91 and Mark Adair 14 as the hosts declared on 573-5 with a lead of 351.

Opening the Derbyshire second innings, Charlie Macdonell made 15 before he was caught by Adair off Oliver Hannon-Dalby. Fellow opener Ali hit 40, including seven fours and one six, before he was lbw to George Panayi.

Tom Wood was bowled by Mitchell Spencer for 29, with Callum Brodrick and Matt Critchley unbeaten on 27 and 22 respectively at the close

Derbyshire will resume their innings on Day Three at 11am, trailing Warwickshire by 209 runs.
