#WeAreDerbyshire Stories: Edwin Smith

Thursday 14th February 2019
Written by Tom Skinner

In the latest edition of our #WeAreDerbyshire Stories feature, former Derbyshire bowler Edwin Smith discusses his Derbyshire career during which he took over 1,200 first-class wickets for the club.

The Cricket Derbyshire Foundation’s Oral History of Cricket in Derbyshire project, which is funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund, has recorded recollections from over 200 participants.

These include former and current players, and focused on audio-visual reminiscences about cricket at every level within the county, from grassroots to the Test arena.

It is this fabric of players, coaches, volunteers and supporters which all contribute greatly to make up cricket in Derbyshire.

In this fourteenth edition, Smith also explains why it was a good time to be a spin bowler during the 1950s and 1960s.
