#WeAreDerbyshire Stories: Tom Poynton

Thursday 10th January 2019
Written by Danny Painter

In the latest edition of our #WeAreDerbyshire Stories feature, we hear an open and honest account from former wicketkeeper batsman Tom Poynton.

The Cricket Derbyshire Foundation’s Oral History of Cricket in Derbyshire project, which is funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund, has recorded recollections from almost 200 participants.

These include former and current players, and focused on audio-visual reminiscences about cricket at every level within the county, from grassroots to the Test arena.

It is this fabric of players, coaches, volunteers and supporters which all contribute greatly to make up cricket in Derbyshire.

In this tenth edition, Poynton discusses the impact of the death of his father, as well as a career-changing injury and his life after cricket.
