Tom Wood and Alex Hughes both hit unbeaten half centuries on Day Three of Derbyshire Second XI’s friendly versus Lancashire as the match ended as a draw.

Wood (53 not out) and Hughes (51 not out) shared a partnership of 96 to take Derbyshire to 118-1 when the draw was confirmed.

Greg Cork earlier took 3-21 as Lancashire declared on 289-8, with a first innings lead of 151, before Wood and Hughes safely played out the rest of the day.

Lancashire started Day Three on 139-3, a lead of one after Derbyshire were bowled out for 138. The bowlers immediately made early breakthroughs, with Cork taking the wickets of both overnight batsmen Chris Laker (66) and Bradley Yates (13) to leave Lancashire 167-5.

However, an 81-run partnership between Brooke Guest (61) and Stephen Parry (34) thwarted Derbyshire once more, before spinners Matt Critchley (2-61) and Callum Parkinson (1-49) accounted for the pair respectively.

Critchley struck again, taking the wicket of Callum’s twin brother Matt Parkinson for seven, prompting Lancashire into a declaration with a lead of 151.

Ben Slater fell early in Derbyshire’s second innings for 10, but Wood and Hughes both made solid fifties before the match was drawn with Derbyshire 118-1.
