Written by Danny Painter

Batsman Tom Wood has been named in Derbyshire’s 13-man squad to face Leicestershire in the county’s final home fixture of 2016, starting on Monday at 10.30am.

Wood replaces Charlie Macdonell in the only change from the squad which faced Gloucestershire earlier in the month.

Wood has had a string of successful performances in the Second XI, averaging 104 in the Second XI Championship with a high score of 200 not out. In last week’s game with Glamorgan, he struck 134 from 226 balls.

Ben Cotton and Will Davis retain their places in the squad after being included for the first time since July in the last game with Gloucestershire.

Callum Parkinson will face the side he made his debut against earlier this season. He took seven wickets in the match and scored 48 not out at Grace Road in August.

Shiv Thakor and Tom Taylor both remain unavailable due to injury, while overseas batsman Hamish Rutherford has returned to New Zealand to prepare for the new season with Otago.

Leicestershire sit in seventh place in the Specsavers County Championship Division Two, with three wins from their 14 games this season, but they have lost their last two fixtures.

Mark Cosgrove has scored 1,037 runs this season with a high score of 146, one of four hundreds. Fellow Australian overseas player Clint McKay is Leicestershire’s leading wicket taker this season, with 46 to his name.

He has been supported by Leicestershire’s other seam threats Ben Raine and Charlie Shreck, who have taken 34 and 33 wickets this season respectively.

Young opener Harry Dearden has been named as part of a 13-man squad for the trip up the M1.

The left-hander, who made a well-constructed 48 in the intra-squad game, is the one addition to the squad with Lewis Hill, Raine and Ollie Freckingham missing out on the trip to Derby.
