Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC), led by Wes Durston, completed the second victory of its tour of South Africa with a nine-wicket win over a Western Provence Cricket Association Academy XI.

Durston starred with the bat, in response to the hosts’ 95 all out, smashing 73 off 31 balls, including four fours and eight sixes.

In a destructive innings, Durston also struck Van Vuuren, the WPCAA spinner, for six sixes in an over. Five of the maximums were straight down the ground and the other over mid-wicket in a special achievement for the Derbyshire all-rounder.

Graham Grace top scored for MCC with 05, while George Thurstance (26), Chris Jordan (34) and the team’s Cape Town expert, Andre Geldenhuys (38 not out) all made useful contributions in the side’s 304-6 off 50 overs.

WPCAA displayed more resistance in their second innings posting 221, with Durston returning tidy figures of 2-34 from his 11 overs.

This left the MCC requiring 13 to win, which the visitors achieved for the loss of one wicket.

The tour concludes with a series of three back-to-back one-day matches in Cape Town and Paarl, starting on Wednesday 6 January.
