Thursday 28th April 2016
Written by Danny Painter

Intermittent rain showers throughout the three days of the Second XI Championship fixture between Derbyshire and Leicestershire at Swarkestone meant that the match ended in a draw.

Having won the toss and decided to field first on Day One, Derbyshire took wickets at regular intervals during the visitors’ innings to bowl them out for 173.

Ben Cotton was the star with the ball on Day One, taking 3-7, before added a further wicket on Day Two to return 4-30 in the innings. Also in the wickets were Shiv Thakor (3-20), Tom Milnes (2-42) and Greg Cork (1-9).

In reply, both Scott Elstone and Thakor made half centuries in quick time as Derbyshire looked to try and force a positive result.

Opening the batting, Elstone hit 66 from 63 balls whilst Thakor was 50 not out when the game was abandoned with the hosts on 210-5, with a lead of 37.

Derbyshire took 11 points from the fixture, whilst Leicestershire took eight.
