Members vote in favour of governance changes

The overwhelming support from Derbyshire Members for the club’s proposed governance changes was announced at Tuesday’s Special General Meeting.

The meeting, which was held via Zoom and followed the club’s earlier postponed Annual General Meeting, was arranged with the main agenda item for the Club’s Auditors to confirm the results of the resolution to adopt the proposed new Club Rules with effect from the conclusion of the next Annual General Meeting to be held in March 2021.

The Supervisory Board’s governance proposal, which put forward changes to the Board structure in order for the club to meet the standards required in the ECB’s Governance Framework, was voted in favour by a majority of 329 for, to one against, as 40 per cent of eligible Members cast their vote.

Chairman Ian Morgan said: “Once again, it was brilliant to engage and discuss important club issues with our Members and supporters during the AGM and SGM.

“To see another great turnout via the digital meetings, during such challenging times, is a testament of the support and closeness that we have as a club with our Members.

“We’re delighted to see such an overwhelming amount of support for the proposed changes, which will modernise and improve the club’s governance structure and crucially meet the ECB’s minimum standards for good governance.

“The full timeline for how we will introduce these changes will be communicated to our Members over the coming weeks and on behalf of the Supervisory Board, I would like to extend my thanks and gratitude for their engagement throughout this process.”

Supporters were also given an update on the club’s plans for the winter and Head of Cricket Dave Houghton discussed the recent contract extensions as part of an informal Members’ Forum.

Following the Forum, the club was pleased to welcome former opening batsman, Twenty20 Coach and current Club President, John Wright, for a panel discussion about his time in cricket.
