Scrimshaw delighted with Derbyshire chance

George Scrimshaw is excited to have joined Derbyshire, and is determined to become a valuable member of the attack.

The 23-year-old quick has signed a season-long contract with the club, after a period out of the game through injury, having previously represented Worcestershire.

He has been training with the squad during the winter and has impressed the coaching team enough to earn a deal, joining an exciting crop of developing bowlers.

With the 2021 campaign just around the corner, Scrimshaw is delighted the support he has experienced as a Derbyshire player so far.

“It’s all happened quite quickly, I’ve been very lucky to have been given the chance to train and I’m already looking forward to the season ahead,” said Scrimshaw

“I’ve spent a little while out of the game, but I’m ready to prove myself to people. The training environment and everything has been really enjoyable so far.

“It’s really encouraging to have earnt a deal, a real confidence boost. I’m just really pleased that my body is holding up so far. I’ve been bowling since January and it’s been a pretty smooth run.

“You can tell that the coaches really have time for everyone. The bowlers, that aren’t considered to be batsmen as well, get plenty of time to work on their skills. There’s so many opportunities to improve and the coaches are good at what they do.”

Scrimshaw made four T20 appearances for Worcestershire during his time with them, while his white ball performances in Second XI cricket were also consistently good.

The tall paceman is determined to be an asset in the shorter formats, but is also hoping to compete with his fellow quicks for a place in the red ball side.

“I never want to write anything off, I haven’t played a first-class game yet, but I don’t want to be ruled out of that,” he added.

“I really want to be a strike bowler for the club, whether that be at the top of the order in white ball, or in short bursts in the longer format.

“We’ve got a very good bowling unit and I’m really pleased to be a part of it. Hopefully I can bring something exciting to the team.

“There’s a competitive element, because everyone wants to get in the team and compete for that same spot.”
