Ravi Rampaul claimed 4-64 as Derbyshire beat Worcestershire by 82 runs on Day Four of the Specsavers County Championship game at Kidderminster CC.

Callum Ferguson struck 127 for the hosts, but Rampaul, Tony Palladino and Fynn Hudson-Prentice shared the wickets to dismiss Worcestershire for 290, after setting them a total of 373 to win.

The result takes Derbyshire third in the Specsavers County Championship Division Two, taking 106 points from nine first-class fixtures this season.

Ferguson started the day on 71 not out and brought up his century in 205 balls, including 17 fours, while his sixth-wicket partner, Cox, made it to his half-century in 140 balls, eight of which resulted in boundaries.

Derbyshire took the new ball after 80 overs and it reaped almost instant rewards, when Rampaul bowled Cox for 52 with the final delivery of the 82nd over to end the 164-run partnership.

Brett D’Oliveira joined Ferguson in the middle and the pair added 33 runs before lunch on the final day, with Worcestershire still needing 128 runs to win the game.

Just four runs were scored after the interval before Hudson-Prentice made the breakthrough, trapping Ferguson lbw for a score of 127, the second-highest individual total in the match after Tom Lace’s unbeaten 132.

It was the bowler’s best figures for a County Championship innings, after he had claimed two wickets in a spell of eight maiden overs on Day Three.

The eighth-wicket pair of D’Oliveira and Joe Leach put on 36 runs before the former was trapped lbw by  Palladino for 30, while Rampaul got Dillon Pennington (0) out the same way soon after.

Palladino secured the 82-run victory when he had Leach caught by Luis Reece for a score of 28, meaning that all ten wickets were shared between him, Ravi Rampaul and Fynn Hudson-Prentice.
