A tricky young bowler, who took the wicket of West Indies opener Kraigg Brathwaite on his first-class debut, James Taylor signed his first professional contract in 2017.
The Cricket Derbyshire Academy in partnership with the University of Derby graduate made one first-class appearance that summer after impressing in the Academy and Second XI setup.
On first-class debut in the Bell & Co Tour Match against West Indies, he took 1-14 in the tourists’ second innings as the three-day match ended in a draw – stepping up against international opponents and showing his ability as a front line bowler.
He signed a two-year contract in September 2017, committing him to the Club until the end of the 2019 season.
