Anuj Dal starred with both bat and ball as Derbyshire Second XI claimed back-to-back Twenty20 wins over Nottinghmshire at The 3aaa County Ground.

Dal claimed a five-wicket haul in the first and top-scored in both matches as Derbyshire secured wins by five wickets and 81 runs.

Nottinghamshire got off to a good start in the first match after they had won the toss and elected to bat, as openers Solomon Budinger and Luke Wood guided the visitors onto 30-0.

However, Dal came into the attack to halt Notts’ progress and take two wickets in consecutive balls to remove both Budinger (11) and Wood (19) at the end the fifth over.

Dal soon had another three wickets to claim his five-wicket haul as he finished with 5-11 from his four overs.

Ashraf (9), Chris Gibson (2) and Savin Perera (6) all fell to Dal as Derbyshire reduced Notts to 53-5 in the 11th.

There was a late resistance from Lyndon James (27 not out) and Kamau Leverock (14 not out) as they combined for a 39-run partnership from 33 balls to set Derbyshire 107 runs to win.

Chesney Hughes (19) and James Kettleborough (24) both made quick-fire cameos to accelerate Derbyshire’s innings before they fell to leave the score at 57-3 in the ninth over.

Scott Palombo (2) and Josh Morgan (14) were also dismissed in quick succession as Blatherwick took his second wicket before Dal and McKiernan came together to secure victory.

Dal hit an unbeaten 34 and McKiernan also added 13 as Derbyshire claimed a five-wicket win with 21 balls to spare.

Nottinghamshire again started the second match strongly as Blatherwick struck to remove Hughes (6) after four balls.

However, Wood and Kettleborough were in fine form as they racked up a 59-run partnership from 36 balls to set a platform for a big score after Derbyshire had chosen to bat first.

Chris Gibson fought back for the visitors as he dismissed both Wood (26) and Kettleborough (35) in consecutive overs, before running out Palombo (4) to reduce Derbyshire to 75-4.

Dal continued his form as he came to the crease to combine with Morgan (23) and McKiernan (23) for partnerships of 51 and 39 and accelerate Derbyshire’s score to 165-6.

He eventually fell as he was run out for an impressive 45 from 34 balls as Derbyshire set Nottinghamshire 175 runs to win.

In similar fashion to the first match, the visitors lost wickets at regular intervals at the start of the innings as Dan Wheeldon dismissed three of the four top-order batsman to leave Notts on 24-4 in the fifth over.

Ashraf (29) and Leverock (16) were tasked with rebuilding the innings for the visitors as the pair made short cameos before McKiernan came into the attack to remove both batsmen.

Nottinghamshire wickets continued to fall and they slipped to 93 all out in their reply as Wheeldon and McKiernan both finished with three wickets in a comfortable 81-run win for Derbyshire.
