Dominic Cork said it was an opportunity he couldn’t turn down as he returns to Derbyshire as Twenty20 Head Coach for this summer’s Vitality Blast.
The former all-rounder is looking forward to a successful campaign, following two years at the Club as a bowling coach, during which he helped Derbyshire to a first-ever home quarter-final in 2017.
He said: “I’m delighted, it’s an opportunity that has come along. I’ve been grateful to work for the last couple of years with Derbyshire.
“It’ll be great to take the reigns of the T20 side now and just move it on. It has been good in the past couple of years but if we’re honest as a side and as coaching staff, it could have been a bit better.
“Hopefully we can do that and get to the illustrious finals day because it’s every coach’s and player’s dream to be there.
“The opportunity came along and I think it was too good to really miss.
“I always thought that I could move into the coaching world and hopefully it’s a nice dip of the toe and take this Club which is obviously dear to my heart, where I first started, that one step further.
“We’ve still got a lot of work to do and it’s going to be difficult but I’m quietly confident that as a side, if we play to our abilities, we could upset quite a few people.”
Cork is also eager to be back in front of the big home crowds for the Vitality Blast at The Pattonair County Ground this summer.
“I love T20, I think that it has moved cricket on really well.
“It is a great format. It’s something as a player, I’m sure they love and it’s great to have good crowds and hopefully Derbyshire people will come out to support.
“We need to win, it’s simple. The only way to attract fans is to deliver on the pitch and I’d love to see Derbyshire fans experience a finals day.”
