VIDEO: Qadri excited for U19s Tri-Series

DerbyshireTV spoke to 16-year-old spinner Hamidullah Qadri as he prepares for his first taste of cricket overseas with England under-19s.

Qadri will travel to South Africa after being selected for the Tri-Series against South Africa and Namibia, with the schedule continuing after Christmas with the ICC Under-19s World Cup in New Zealand.

The off-spinner, who returned a maiden five-wicket haul on his first-class debut in June, is excited by the prospect of playing abroad and has spoken to a couple of his Derbyshire teammates about the conditions he can expect.

He said: “I’m really looking forward to it, I’ve heard from Hardus [Viljoen] and Imran [Tahir] that South Africa is a good place to play cricket.

“Obviously the wickets are quite hard so it’s going to be difficult for me as a spinner. Also with South Africa being in high-altitude, fitness is going to play a big role as well.

“I want to perform well in the Tri-Series first and then hopefully that will lead to me being selected for the World Cup.

“I just want to do well for the team, cement my place in the first team at Derbyshire and play as many games as possible and do as well as I can.”
