Gary Wilson has been named as Derbyshire’s Vice Captain for the 2017 season.

The Ireland international, who joined the Club from Surrey on a three-year deal in September, will assist Captain Billy Godleman both on and off the field under the Club’s new coaching model.

Wilson has a wealth of experience both domestic and internationally, and has previous experience leading a side when he captained Surrey for five months in 2014.

Wilson said: “I’m honoured to be asked to be Vice Captain. We have some exciting plans for next season and I look forward to working closely with Billy as we try to put these into action.

“We have a great group of players who are all determined to do well and I’m confident together, with our destiny in our own hands, we can push for a successful summer.”

Godleman added: “It’s fantastic news to have Gary confirmed as my Vice Captain. He comes with great experience, not only in international cricket but also in the county game.

“He’s someone who I can have as support on the field for tactical decisions and he will also have a massive influence in the dressing room, particularly helping our younger guys.

“Alongside Gary, we’ve got a good group of senior players and for me to have different opinions, which I trust, will help me make the best decisions for the team.”
