Derbyshire victorious on Day Three

Derbyshire claimed a victory in their final home game of the season, as the hosts beat Sussex by 181 runs at The Pattonair County Ground.

Ollie Robinson claimed 5-88 and Reece Topley 4-58 as Derbyshire were dismissed for 437, setting Sussex 345 to win the match.

Despite 38 from Phil Salt, Anuj Dal, Fynn Hudson-Prentice and Matt Critchley all claimed three wickets as the hosts secured victory with more than 20 overs left on Day Three.

Having resumed on 106 not out, Billy Godleman could not add to his overnight score, as the Derbyshire captain was caught by Phil Salt off Robinson off the first ball of the day.

Dal (9), Critchley (10), Harvey Hosein (0) an Mattie McKiernan (7) all fell to Robinson in the morning session, as the Sussex bowler picked up figures of 5-88

Topley trapped du Plooy lbw for a well-made 28, on his way to claiming 4-58 as Derbyshire were dismissed for 437, meaning Sussex would require 345 runs to win the game.

After lunch, Derbyshire started the brighter and they were rewarded when Hudson-Prentice had Wells (5) caught by McKiernan with 30 runs on the board.

Dal claimed his first three County Championship wickets in the match against Lancashire last week, and he repeated the trick again before tea in Derby, as he dismissed Will Beer (19), Delray Rawlins (11) and the crucial wicket of Salt (38).

After the interval, Hudson-Prentice struck to dismiss Stiaan van Zyl (27) and David Wiese (0) in as many balls, before Dustin Melton had Chris Jordan (4) caught by Logan van Beek to move Derbyshire closer to victory.

Critchley claimed the last three wickets to secure victory for Derbyshire, as the hosts dismissed Sussex for 163 to win by 181 runs at The Pattonair County Ground.
