County Championship

Derbyshire vs Yorkshire
Sunday 30 June – Wednesday 3 July; 11am start

2023 saw Derbyshire placed firmly on the back foot after being bowled out on the first morning, before another collapse threatened to finish the match inside two days. However, an incredible partnership between Leus du Plooy and Haider Ali wrestled back some momentum.

The bowlers showed immense fight to put Derbyshire in an unlikely position to win the game, however it was not to be.

Although Derbyshire ended up on the wrong side of the result, what cannot be argued was the brilliant, captivating four days of cricket that had been played to kick off the Chesterfield Festival.

If the Derbyshire players wanted to prove a point to finish the festival strongly, they certainly did. The T20 match versus Yorkshire Vikings to wrap up the week at Chesterfield was a one-sided domination from the hosts, as the Falcons won by a record margin of 144 runs.

Derbyshire pair du Plooy and Brooke Guest added 93 from 34 balls, including 31 coming off the final over.

The bowlers made inroads early as the Vikings were bowled out for 68 in another memorable day of T20 action at Queen’s Park. The Falcons are now on a six-game winning streak over the Vikings at Queen’s Park, and are aiming to be in seventh heaven during the next encounter.
