Leus du Plooy struck an unbeaten century as Derbyshire ended their 2019 season with a draw against Middlesex in the Specsavers County Championship.

The batsman reached three-figures in the sole over bowled after tea, before rain brought an end to proceedings at Lord’s with Derbyshire 304-7.

Ethan Bamber (5-93) was the pick of the bowlers for Middlesex in a match that was affected by rain and bad light throughout the four days.

With no play possible before lunch, du Plooy resumed on the final afternoon with Harvey Hosein, with the latter able to add one run to his overnight score before being caught by Dawid Malan off Bamber for 57.

Matt Critchley managed 16 before he was dismissed, while Fynn Hudson-Prentice made a quick-fire 28 before being caught behind off Bamber.

Anuj Dal settled the Derbyshire innings, making 13 from 36 deliveries before tea, as Derbyshire moved into the lead on the final afternoon of the season.

Just a single over was bowled after the interval, with du Plooy (100 not out) scoring three runs off Max Holden to reach his second Specsavers County Championship century of the season off 175 balls, including 15 fours.

The two captains shook hands after rain forced the players from the field, as Derbyshire finished the season in seventh-place in Division Two.
