Eleven wickets fall as du Plooy hits 38 on Day One
Leus du Plooy hit an unbeaten 38 as 11 wickets fell on Day One of the Specsavers County Championship game against Lancashire at The Pattonair County Ground.
Jimmy Anderson took 5-18 as Derbyshire were all out for 153, with Graeme Onions also picking up the first three wickets for the visitors after a delayed start in Derby.
Luis Reece had Keaton Jennings (0) lbw before the close of play, leaving Lancashire 8-1. Saqib Mahmood (7 not out) and Alex Davies (1 not out) will resume on Day Two, trailing by 145.
Play was delayed at The Pattonair County Ground until 2.30pm, after Derbyshire were put into bat by the visitors. Billy Godleman and Luis Reece opened for the hosts, with the captain coming into this game off the back of a career-best 229 against Glamorgan.
However, he could not replicate his Swansea innings at home, as he was caught by Rob Jones off the bowling of Onions for four. The former England seamer then claimed his second and third wickets of the morning, Wayne Madsen (4) and Tom Lace (4) out in quick succession.
Luis Reece’s battling 35-ball stand ended when he was bowled by James Anderson for two, before the England bowler trapped Harvey Hosein lbw for seven.
With the score at 24-5, Matt Critchley arrived at the crease and led something of a counter-attack to the Lancashire attack, hitting six fours in his first 35 balls. Hughes followed-suit, striking 32 runs before tea.
The pair put on 62 runs before the interval, with Derbyshire recovering from slow start to see off the bowling pair of Onions and Anderson, and scoring runs off Bohannon and Mahmood.
However, Critchley could not add to his score before Anderson had him caught behind in the first over after tea, before he claimed two wickets in his next over, claiming the dismissal of Hughes, bowled for 32, and Logan van Beek, lbw for nought to claim his five-wicket haul.
Sam Conners arrived at the crease to make his Specsavers County Championship debut alongside Leus du Plooy, who was playing in his first home red-ball fixture.
The pair put on 48 for the ninth wicket before Conners was caught in the deep by Haseeb Hameed for a score of 14.
The innings came to a close when Rampaul (13) was caught by Josh Bohannon off the bowling of Mahmood, as Derbyshire were all out for a score of 153 with du Plooy unbeaten on 38.
Derbyshire made a strong start when bowling, as Reece trapped Keaton Jennings lbw for nought before a run had been scored, before Lancashire ended the day 8-1, with Mahmood unbeaten on seven and Davies not out on one.
