Tall, strong and highly experienced, Derbyshire has signed former West Indies fast bowler Ravi Rampaul for all forms of cricket ahead of the 2018 season.

The wily pace bowler joins from Surrey on a three-year deal and brings with him a wealth of experience having played in 133 international matches for West Indies and 232 domestic fixtures during his career to date.

He has taken 206 first-class wickets at an average of 30 and boasts best figures of 7-51 in the red ball format. Known for tricky variations which are particularly effective in limited overs cricket, Rampaul has 556 limited overs wickets across the international and domestic game, making him one of the most prolific West Indies bowlers in the shorter formats of the game in recent years.

Rampaul made his mark on the international game in the 2011 World Cup when, after earning a recall, he immediately took a five-fer against India, before going on to take 11 wickets in the two-Test series against Pakistan on home soil. He was also part of the West Indies side which won the ICC World Twenty20 tournament in 2012, with the quick bowler removing the dangerous Tillakaratne Dilshan with his first ball in the final.

A true all-format player, he has represented Trinidad and Tobago since 2002, before making his first venture into the English domestic game last season with Surrey.

The 32-year-old took 25 wickets in 15 fixtures, including a best of 4-40 in the One-Day Cup, but leaves the Kia Oval with the aim of cementing a regular first-team place on the English domestic circuit.

He now looks forward to the summer with Derbyshire where he will be available for all forms, aiming to lead the 2018 bowling attack alongside the likes of Hardus Viljoen and Will Davis.

Welcome to Derbyshire, Ravi.
