Seconds lose in low-scoring one-day match

Derbyshire lost to Yorkshire by eight wickets in a low-scoring encounter in the Second XI One-Day Trophy at Repton.

After winning the toss and electing to bowl, Yorkshire quickly set about dismantling the Derbyshire top-order with Harvey Hosein (0) falling in the first over and Callum Brodrick also out without scoring.

Tom Wood (1) and Anuj Dal (0) became James Wainman’s second and third wickets, before Jordan Thompson came into the attack to get James Kettleborough (20) and Scott Palumbo (15) caught, the only two Derbyshire batsmen to reach double figures on a tough day in the middle.

Mohammed Azarullah was the last wicket to fall, the bowler run out in the 23rd over, to leave Derbyshire all out for 67.

Derbyshire struck twice early in the Yorkshire chase, Alfie Gleadall first removing the dangerous Tom Kohler-Cadmore, before Azarullah had Alex Lees (3) caught by Anuj Dal in the following over to leave the visitors 3-2.

But Harry Brook (36 not out), who recently scored 124 in Yorkshire’s Specsavers County Championship win over Essex, and Jack Leaning (unbeaten on 27) quickly took the game away from Derbyshire in an unbroken 65-run stand to give Yorkshire an eight-wicket win.

Derbyshire are back in Second XI One-Day Trophy action tomorrow when travel to Northern Cricket Club to face Lancashire, starting at 10.30am.
