In the latest edition of our #WeAreDerbyshire Stories feature, we hear from former batsman Alan Hill about his memories of the mid-1970s and Eddie Barlow’s introduction to Derbyshire.
The Cricket Derbyshire Foundation’s Oral History of Cricket in Derbyshire project, which is funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund, has recorded recollections from almost 200 participants.
These include former and current players, and focused on audio-visual reminiscences about cricket at every level within the county, from grassroots to the Test arena.
It is this fabric of players, coaches, volunteers and supporters which all contribute greatly to make up cricket in Derbyshire.
In this seventh edition, Hill discusses Eddie Barlow’s impact on the county both on the field with match-winning performances and off it with fitness regimes and revolutionary leadership.
