Dilshan returns for Leicestershire clash

Monday 3rd August 2015
Written by Danny Painter

Sri Lanka batting all-rounder Tillakaratne Dilshan makes his Falcons return as Derbyshire host Leicestershire Foxes in the Royal London One-Day Cup on Tuesday; 2pm start.

Dilshan begins the second spell with the county this summer, with Graeme Welch naming him in his 14-man squad, after he returned to the UK from his stint in the Caribbean Premier League.

Mark Footitt, however, will miss the fixture after he was called up to the England squad for the fourth Investec Ashes Test at Trent Bridge, starting on Thursday 6 August.

19-year-old seam bowler Will Davis takes his place in the Falcons squad after the Cricket Derbyshire Academy in partnership with the University of Derby graduate recently took three wickets on his first-class debut versus Australia at Derby.

Derbyshire will be looking to bounce back from a 77-run defeat to Surrey at Guildford last time out, where Wes Durston (129 off 98 balls) struck his fifth List A century.

OPPOSITION

Following the abandonment of their opening fixture against Surrey, Leicestershire suffered defeat at Northamptonshire before an agonising one-run defeat at home to Gloucestershire in their first three Royal London One-Day Cup fixtures

They also suffered defeat to Yorkshire by 31 runs at Headingley yesterday as their search for a first win in this year’s competition goes on.

All-rounder Ben Raine has proven himself to be a consistent wicket-taker in the LV= County Championship this season, while Australia international Clint McKay is also a threat with the ball.

Mark Cosgrove and Ned Eckersley provide quality at the top of the batting order, with Ireland international Niall O’Brien capable of scoring quickly along with Tom Wells who has shown glimpses of his ability in the NatWest T20 Blast this summer.
