The BRM Solicitors Chesterfield Festival of Cricket, in association with Chesterfield Borough Council, gets underway on Sunday 14 July at Queen’s Park.

The five-day festival starts with a Specsavers County Championship match against Northamptonshire, before rounding off with the showpiece Vitality Blast fixture against Yorkshire Vikings on Saturday 20 July.

Ticket sales have been high for all five days, in particular the Twenty20 opener against local rivals Yorkshire, with an advance sell-out expected.

The club is advising all spectators to buy their tickets in advance to avoid missing out.

Derbyshire will come into the week with fond memories of 2018’s event, with two victories at Queen’s Park.

Wayne Madsen’s century and Matt Critchley’s maiden 10-wicket haul earned Derbyshire a 39-run victory over Northamptonshire in the County Championship, while Billy Godleman’s 71 along with a remarkable innings from Critchley sealed a second-successive home victory against the Vikings.

Chief Executive Ryan Duckett highlighted the importance of the festival of cricket to Derbyshire’s season.

“The festival is always one of the highlights of the cricket calendar and we’re grateful to BRM Solicitors, Chesterfield Borough Council and Chesterfield Cricket Club for their ongoing support.

“We’ve experienced a high demand for tickets across all five days, with the Vitality Blast opener against Yorkshire seeing a record-level of interest and there are now less than 400 tickets remaining.

“We’re anticipating a third-successive advanced sell-out and that just goes to show the popularity of the festival and county cricket in the north of the county.

“The team head into a really important match on Sunday against Northamptonshire on the back of a good win away to Worcestershire, so it promises to be an exciting week as we look to continue that momentum.”

Ahead of the festival of cricket, leader of Chesterfield Borough Council, Tricia Gilby is pleased to see the popularity of the week within the local community.

“We are delighted to be again hosting the 2019 Chesterfield Festival of Cricket in conjunction with Derbyshire County and Chesterfield Cricket Clubs. This annual event is one of the highlights of our local events calendar. It is enjoyed by both visitors to the town and local residents alike and I’m sure this year will be no different.”
