The first of three big matches at The 3aaa County Ground in a week, just two points currently separate the teams in the race for a top four spot in the North Group.
In the reverse fixture at Emirates Old Trafford, the Lightning ran out five-wicket winners despite a blistering 40 off 24 balls for Matt Critchley and 52 from the in-form Wayne Madsen as England international Jos Buttler hit an unbeaten 42 in reply.
Derbyshire Falcons will be looking to avenge this defeat and make it four wins from seven matches in the North Group, with Captain Gary Wilson banking on home support to give the Falcons an extra edge.
“We want to turn The 3aaa County Ground into a place where people don’t want to come and play,” said Wilson. “If we keep performing it becomes a place where we know how to win games of cricket and that will give us an extra edge.
“The crowd can definitely make it for the players. Support really counts, there is nothing better than a home crowd getting really behind you and once you get off to a good start or your batsman hits quick runs you can hear the crowd and feel them backing you all the way.
He added: “We have eight to play, and I’d have thought than if we win 7 or 8 in total then we might be alright, but the goal is to qualify and we are a work in progress for sure. If we play to our ability we could be there or thereabouts.”
The packed week of NatWest T20 Blast action in Derby starts with the clash versus Lancashire Lightning on Tuesday 25 July, 7pm start, and this is followed by a Friday night showdown against the reigning champions, Northants Steelbacks, on 28 July, 7pm start.
The busy week concludes with the Club’s Family Fixture on Sunday 30 July when Leicestershire Foxes are the visitors, 2.30pm start. Under 16s can attend this match for FREE.
