Billy Godleman has spoken of his immense pride to be named Derbyshire’s Player of the Year and Most Improved Player for the 2015 season.

The opening batsmen enjoyed his most fruitful season to date, amassing over 1,000 first-class runs for the first time in his career as well as securing his first List A century. In total, he score 1,412 runs across all three formats in 2015.

Godleman has paid tribute to Elite Performance Director Graeme Welch and his team for aiding his development this summer and the batsmen now hopes his fine form can continue in 2016.

“It was an incredibly special evening on Saturday,” Godleman said. “To be awarded as the Club’s Player of the Year is incredibly pleasing for me. This has been my most consistent year in terms of performance.

“I’m really pleased with some of the varying types of innings I have played this season in helping Derbyshire either save or win games of cricket. That’s what my job is to do and I get the most satisfaction out of helping the team to perform positively in the game.

“I really enjoying playing white-ball cricket and I had the opportunity to bat up and down the order in the NatWest T20 Blast which was challenging and rewarding at times. I think that’s had a positive impact on my batting in the longer form of the game.

“I also had the opportunity to open the batting in one-day cricket which is something that I really enjoy and I really appreciate having that opportunity.

“I love red-ball cricket. To play innings that have impacted the team in a positive way in varying contexts during the season is a really good indicator to myself and the coaches that my game is developing.

“I have had incredible time and support from Graeme, his support team and the staff here at the Club. Out in the middle, the players support me whilst I am batting and also behind the scenes in the indoor school, in practice contexts and also in the changing room.

“I feel very fortunate to have the backing and support that I’ve had from Graeme in particular but also his coaching staff and all the guys I play with.”
