Hughes hits half-century for seconds

Alex Hughes smashed 84 as Derbyshire faced Nottinghamshire in two Second XI Twenty20 games at Welbeck Colliery CC. 

The hosts were victorious in the first game of the day, despite Logan van Beek, Mark Watt and Connor Marshall taking two wickets apiece, as Nottinghamshire won by 62 runs.

Derbyshire responded with a 103-run victory in the second T20 of the day, with Hughes top-scoring with 84 from just 43 runs, while Watt (3-7) and Marshall (3-35) shared six wickets.

MATCH ONE – Nottinghamshire won by 62 runs. 

Two wickets each from van Beek, Watt and Marshall weren’t enough as Derbyshire fell to a 62-run defeat to Nottinghamshire in the first Second XI T20 of the day. 

Sol Budinger and Lyndon James put on an opening stand of 54 in less than five overs before the latter was bowled by Hutchinson for a score of 10.

Budinger continued and raced to his half-century, scoring 75 from just 41 balls, including 11 fours and three sixes. before he was caught by Anuj Dal off Marshall.

Watt claimed the wickets of Matthew Carter (5) and Jack Potticary (0), while van Beek dismissed Dan Christian (48) and Jack Blatherwick (2) as Notts posted 194-7 from their 20 overs.

Derbyshire began their innings with Tom Wood (4) and Nils Pristeley (0) at the crease, but both were dismissed within the opening three overs.

Luke Fletcher (4-16) claimed the wickets of Wood, Morgan (6), Marshall (9) and Watt (13) as Derbyshire managed 132 all out, 63 runs behind the required total

MATCH TWO – Derbyshire won by 103 runs. 

Alex Hughes scored 84 as Derbyshire beat Nottinghamshire by more than 100 runs in the second Twenty20 of the day. 

Having won the toss, the visitors elected to bat with Jack Redman (19) and Wood (15) opening the batting. The pair were dismissed within six overs, but Hughes led the charge for Derbyshire, smashing his half-century in 29 balls, including six fours and two sixes.

Priestley (21) and Daryn Smit (15) were the only two players to make double-figures, but Derbyshire posted a total of 187-9 from their innings.

Watt claimed the early wickets of Alex Hales (12), before dismissing James (2) and Hall (0) on his way to 3-7 from four overs, while Marshall also took three wickets for 35 runs, with the hosts all out for 84, giving Derbyshire winning-margin of 103 runs.
