Following a comprehensive review of cricket from pathway to the first XI, the Club introduced a new coaching model which, coupled with targeted recruitment of experienced senior players, is designed to give the Club the best chance of achieving both red and white ball success.
Kim Barnett, who in his career spanning 24 years won six Lord’s finals, was appointed Director of Cricket.
He was quick to fill the new coaching roles, with former India Head Coach, John Wright, named as Twenty20 Specialist Coach, ex-Bangladesh High Performance Head Coach, Mal Loye, as Development Coach and Stephen Stubbings as First XI Support Coach.
As well as providing access to some of the world’s best coaching, the new model will allow the Club to redirect investment from coaching to player recruitment and place more emphasis on players being responsible for their own performances on the pitch.
On the field, the Club has strengthen its line-up with the signings of Ireland international wicketkeeper-batsman Gary Wilson, all-rounder Luis Reece and South Africa fast bowler Hardus Viljoen.
Sri Lanka spinner, Jeevan Mendis, and the world’s number two Twenty20 international bowler, Imran Tahir, will, meanwhile, be the Club’s overseas players for the first and second half of the season respectively.
