Derbyshire batsman Hamish Rutherford has been named in the New Zealand Test squad for a three-match series in Australia, starting next month.

Rutherford, who will be available for the Club across all forms for the entire 2016 campaign, is in contention to feature in a Test side for the first time since January 2015 following a successful spell with Derbyshire this summer.

The 26-year-old opener scored 273 runs in three LV= County Championship fixtures, including 108 versus Glamorgan at Queen’s Park, Chesterfield, at an average of 41.

He also flourished in the shorter formats, hitting 110 versus Gloucestershire in the Royal London One-Day Cup, as well as scoring 209 runs in the NatWest T20 Blast.

New Zealand Test squad to play Australia: Brendon McCullum (capt), Trent Boult, Doug Bracewell, Mark Craig, Martin Guptill, Matt Henry, Tom Latham, James Neesham, Luke Ronchi, Hamish Rutherford, Mitchell Santner, Tim Southee, Ross Taylor, BJ Watling, Kane Williamson

Fellow New Zealand batsman Neil Broom, who has signed a two-year deal with Derbyshire, has also been in form with the bat as he top-scored with 67 in a two-day match for Otago against Canterbury last week.
