Derbyshire Second XI bowled out a strong Yorkshire side for 302, before closing on 89-1 on an even Day One of their Second XI Championship match at York CC.

Derbyshire won the toss and elected to bowl as Yorkshire opened with Tom Kohler-Cadmore, after re-signing for the Club, and Captain Jonathan Tattersall.

Pace bowler Rob Hemmings (2-38) got the first breakthrough of the day as Kohler-Cadmore was caught by Charlie Macdonell for 22.

George Rhodes (16) and Tattersall’s wickets fell in quick succession as Hemmings took his second of the day and Ben Cotton claimed his first.

Sam Conners (3-59) took the next three wickets in quick succession, first Matthew Waite (7) was caught by Tom Milnes, before Ryan Gibson (9) and Jordan Thompson (19) were both caught behind by Harvey Hosein.

Azeem Rafiq and Jack Leaning (76 not out) rebuilt nicely sharing an 89-run partnership for the seventh wicket until Hamidullah Qadri (2-62) had Rafiq caught by Hemmings for 59.

Matthew Fisher added 38 until he became Qadri’s second wicket of the innings, caught by Macdonell.

With spin at both ends, Macdonell (2-5) wrapped up the innings as he had James Wainman caught without scoring, before bowling Karl Carver the next ball to dismiss Yorkshire for 302.

Derbyshire openers Rahib Ali (42) and Michael Jones put on 89 for the first wicket before Ali was caught off the bowling of Rhodes (1-8). Jones finished the day unbeaten on 32 and he was joined by Macdonell, who is yet to get off the mark with the score 89-1 at the close.
