Ben Cotton, a tall fast bowler, is a product of the Cricket Derbyshire Academy in partnership with the University of Derby.

The paceman made his first-team debut in the T20 Blast fixture against Lancashire Lightning at Old Trafford and took the all-important wicket of England international wicketkeeper Jos Buttler.

He also appeared for the county in the fixture against the touring India side at The 3aaa County Ground and secured yet more prized scalps in the form of Shikhar Darwan and Virat Kohli.

After the unfortunate injury to fellow graduate Tom Taylor, Cotton was drafted in to play four One-Day Cup games in 2014, and featured in Derbyshire’s first quarter-final in nine years where he took a wicket and scored 18 not out.

Cotton made his first-class debut in the victory over Surrey at the Kia Oval in September that year. In the match, he took three wickets, including 2-46, to help his side to an important victory.

2015 saw Cotton become an integral part of Derbyshire’s attack in the T20 Blast, only for a side strain injury to hamper his campaign. He took 32 wickets in total throughout the season as he featured heavily in all forms.
