VIDEO: Barnett on Briggs of Burton Pre-Season Marquee

Wednesday 18th January 2017
Written by Danny Painter

Director of Cricket, Kim Barnett, says remaining in Derby and training in the Briggs of Burton Pre-Season Marquee will provide the squad the best preparation for the new season.

The squad will train on pitches within the purpose-built structure from February to the start of April. The marquee, sponsored by stainless steel specialists and long-standing Club partners Briggs of Burton, will measure 750m².

It has been specially developed to feature innovative ClearLight panels to allow in as much natural light as possible for the players, while also promoting healthy grass growth during the winter months.

Barnett said: “We have decided to not go on a pre-season tour and will be here all the way through to the start of the new campaign. We will have the Briggs of Burton Pre-Season Marquee in the middle of the square for nine weeks and will get five weeks practice out of it on our own pitch.

“I think, particularly with the 50 over competition, this will give us a chance to be spot on in English conditions and give us the best chance to start the season well.

“The overseas tour has it’s own merit in terms of bonding, but you will often play on pitches that are nothing like England in April and May. Instead, we will be looking to use our own pitches all the way through up until our first matches.”
