Tall, fast and a proven winner, Derbyshire has signed Australia international Kane Richardson for this summer’s Vitality Blast.

Renowned for his ability to open the bowling and close out a game at the death, Richardson has become a white-ball specialist and has been capped 27 times by his country in one-day and twenty-over internationals.

The fast bowler already has numerous accolades to his name in the shortest format, having recently won the Big Bash League with the Melbourne Renegades.

He was the competition’s leading wicket-taker with 24 at an average of 17.70 and best figures of 3-22, whilst the Australian also impressed with his athletic fielding ability.

Capable of firing down well-directed yorkers at high speed, the 28-year-old has made a reputation as an aggressive quick while he also possesses a deceitful slower ball in his arsenal.

Richardson has proven his talents in twenty-over tournaments around the globe, including the Indian Premier League, where he took 18 wickets across three campaigns.

His success in white-ball cricket saw him called up to play for Australia in 2013, before a breakthrough in 2016 when he took 5-68 in a man-of-the-match performance against India.

He has gone on to take 36 wickets in 27 matches across both limited overs formats for his country, while he also won the Under-19 World Cup in 2010.

Although predominantly seen as a fast bowler, the Australian is also capable of adding lower-order runs with the bat in hand. He has over 250 runs in twenty-over matches during his career, with a top score of 45.

Richardson will join up with Twenty20 Coach Dominic Cork and the rest of his teammates ahead of the Vitality Blast’s curtain raiser against Yorkshire Vikings on 20 July.
