Alex Hughes believes his Derbyshire Falcons teammates have shown progression in this year’s NatWest T20 Blast ahead of their final group fixture versus Worcestershire Rapids on Friday; 7pm start.

The Falcons defeated Yorkshire Vikings at Queen’s Park last time out with Wes Durston returning career-best figures of 3-14 before valuable contributions from Wayne Madsen (41) and Hamish Rutherford (40) helped to earn their side a four-wicket win.

Hughes was at the crease in the closing stages to hit the winning runs, and he believes that the Falcons are on the right track ahead of the final game against a Worcestershire outfit who have already qualified for the Quarter Finals of the competition.

“I think we have played some really good cricket at times in this competition. If things had gone our way in a couple of the other games then we might be in the mix to qualify,” said Hughes.

“Worcestershire are at The 3aaa County Ground on Friday and we want to pay them back for when we played at their place so hopefully we will finish with a big win at the end of the competition after a good result against Yorkshire.”

“We have been close in a couple of the games where we ended up just falling short, so it was satisfying to get over the line against Yorkshire, who are a quality team with a number of world-class players.

“We are still learning as a team and we have shown great strides from last year to where we are now so overall we are getting there.”

“It would be nice to end the competition with a win to improve on our good home record, and we want to put in a strong performance for the people who have supported us on Friday nights.”
