Derbyshire have named a 13-man squad for their final pre-season friendly against Oxford UCCE at The Parks, starting on Saturday (11am).

Pakistan international, Shan Masood, is named in the squad for the first time after arriving in England, and he will be aiming to get valuable time in the middle ahead of the LV= County Championship season opener against Middlesex at Lord’s next week.

Captain Billy Godleman, Wayne Madsen, Leus du Plooy, Brooke Guest, Harry Came and Luis Reece will all be vying for a place in the top-order, while further batting options come in the form of all-rounders Anuj Dal, Alex Thomson and Alex Hughes.

Seamers Dustin Melton, Nick Potts and Mikey Cohen complete the squad for this fixture, with overseas signing, Suranga Lakmal, set to arrive in Derbyshire over the weekend, ready to make his debut at Lord’s.

Injury News

George Scrimshaw is rested for the fixture after picking up a niggle in his side during the friendly against Nottinghamshire, while Sam Conners remains at home due to a Covid-19 concern,

Pre-Match Talk

Shan Masood is looking forward to pulling on a Derbyshire shirt for the first time when he faces Oxford UCCE at The Parks this weekend.

Masood, who has four Test centuries for Pakistan, reunites with Head of Cricket Mickey Arthur and will be available for all formats throughout the 2022 season.

Having arrived in England on Thursday, Masood is hoping to make a positive start to his Derbyshire career in the final pre-season friendly before the LV= County Championship campaign begins.

“I’m going to take it one step at a time, I’ll have a hit in the nets [on Friday] and then hopefully another hit at Oxford,” he said.

“There’s no guarantee with performances, but what helps is getting used to the conditions and the environment, because once you’ve got the hang of it, you can start putting together some consistent performances.

“I’m going to keep working at my game, if something isn’t happening I will go back to the drawing board and make sure I am scoring runs for Derbyshire.”
