Ground Development Blog #4: Progress continues

It’s still early days, but like a slow start to spring, progress is now just starting to be visible in this first stage of ground development.

The new roof insulation is being installed in the pavilion, no small task as there is an area of some 500 square metres to be insulated to ensure that the air conditioning functions efficiently, but this work should conclude at the start of next week.

The brickwork has started on the new pavilion entrance, the lift pit is in place and the first series of new drains have been installed.

Also, other basic infrastructure – the mechanical and electrical first fix, in contractor parlance – is also being put in place.

It doesn’t sound too exciting, but this initial work is crucial and will underpin the overall project.

Over in the Gateway, the substructure for the dressing rooms is now complete on the first floor and the floor will be installed over the course of the coming week.

Further work is taking place on the lower ground floor where a new corridor was being erected, alongside the players as they practiced in the nearby nets today.

One of the next steps will see the glazing in the existing internal viewing gallery on the Gateway first floor, removed and re-sited at the front of what is currently the external gallery. This will create a large space which will be subdivided into the dressing rooms.

Staff, cricket and non-cricket, are also having their input. They were obviously involved at the consultation stage, but as the project moves forward, design specifics like colour, flooring, lighting and IT are all being discussed at regular site meetings.

Progress continues and we’ll continue to keep you updated with all the latest news.
