Ground Development Blog #5: Gateway transformation

After seven weeks of largely working beneath the radar, the first green shoots are visible of the first phase of ground development at The 3aaa County Ground.

The new Pavilion entrance is gradually taking shape with the brickwork approaching the level of the first floor, while all the necessary demolition work has been completed, the drains installed and the first fix electrical installation almost finished.

Over in the Gateway, the new internal corridors have been created and the former Chief Executive’s office has already been converted into the Umpire’s dressing room. This will offer the umpires an ideal view of the ground and provide them with modern changing facilities.

Work on the first floor viewing gallery is also progressing well now that the external floor level has been built up to match the interior, and the windows are being relocated to provide what will be the players dressing rooms.

Meanwhile, normal Club business goes on around the development work and it’s pleasing to report a very harmonious relationship between staff, players and Derwent Valley Construction.

There’s plenty to do before the Christmas break after which much of the work will centre on the refurbishment side of the project and the Club will present a further update before the New Year.
