It’s 64 days since the contractors from Derwent Valley Construction first arrived at The 3aaa County Ground and when they left the site on Monday evening for their Christmas break, they did so with some significant work already completed.
In the Gateway, the corridors on the lower ground floor have been built, plastered and painted, while the dressing rooms have advanced to the stage where the next fix will be plastering, lighting and carpets.
The Pavilion has undergone a comprehensive electrical re-wire, seen new drainage installed, along with new plumbing and air conditioning, while the extension roof trusses were added on Monday.
When the contractors return in January, the focus will be on the lift installation in the Pavilion, along with the fitting out of the first floor. Lighting, carpets, a newly-designed bar, television screens, drop-down projector screens plus a newly-created reception area on the ground floor will all be completed before the formal commissioning of services in March.
Over in the Gateway, the new dining room for players and officials, and the new Umpire’s room will be the focus for the contractors.
It’s been a challenge to ensure business continuity at The 3aaa County Ground on what has been converted into a building site – players taking part in pre-season training; corporate events attended by thousands over the pre-Christmas period; staff getting on with their day jobs – but relations between all parties have been cordial and good lines of communication have ensured a largely problem-free first half of the project.
Here’s to an enjoyable Christmas and New Year for all involved with the project and a successful conclusion to it in 2015.
