Wayne Madsen believes there is more to come from his side as they prepare for their trip to face Gloucestershire in the LV= County Championship, starting on Sunday.
Derbyshire started their campaign with defeat to Lancashire on the final day of fixture at The 3aaa County Ground this week.
Madsen is looking for his team to bounce back at Bristol this weekend and says they will look to build on some good performances throughout the match.
“We’ve got a lot more to give as a team, we know that, we just have to get back on the horse and show what we can do,” said Madsen.
“There have been some great performances from us. I thought Tommy Taylor bowled magnificently in the second innings and everybody bowled well in the first innings, so there were good signs on that front.”
Madsen believes his side failed to capitalise on some good opportunities against Lancashire and says that they will look to put that right this weekend.
“We will look back on a few chances we should have taken early on. I think they got maybe 50-60 too many in the first innings and if we had got over 300 we would have been in a much stronger position in the game.
“Again, in the second innings we should have held them to 240-250, so there were times when we let them off the hook.
“Lancashire are a good side and there is a long way to go in the season but it’s not a good feeling to lose your first game.
“We have to learn to take the chances we have, which is what we will need to do to be successful against Gloucestershire in the next game.”
