Graeme Welch has named an unchanged 13-man squad for the LV= County Championship game against Gloucestershire at Bristol County Ground, starting on Sunday 26 April.

Elite Performance Director Welch has kept faith with the same team that faced Lancashire at The 3aaa County Ground last week in the opening fixture of the season.

Tom Taylor will be hoping to continue his good early-season form after claiming career-best figures of 6-61 versus Lancashire, while Wes Durston will be looking to build on his 85 and there was also a good knock from opener Billy Godleman who hit 76.

Jonathan Clare again misses out through injury, but fellow long-term absentee David Wainwright returned to action for Derbyshire Second XI this week as he stepped up his return from injury.

DERBYSHIRE squad in full to play Gloucestershire:

It has been a winter of change at Gloucestershire with a new Head Coach, Assistant Coach and Club Captain all appointed.

Former England spinner Richard Dawson is now in charge, with ex Australian international Ian Harvey as his number two. 2005 Ashes winner Geraint Jones arrived from Kent and will skipper the side in the four-day format this season.

The trio will be looking to boost a Gloucestershire squad who finished 7th in Division Two last season.

They boast a talented batting line-up which includes the experienced New Zealand international Hamish Marshall, and opening batsman Will Tavare who scored impressive 950 runs in the competition last season, including three centuries.

Gloucestershire drew their opening game of the season away at Northamptonshire, with all-rounder Craig Miles taking eight wickets in the match including 6-63 in the first innings.

The last meeting between the two counties in the LV= County Championship came in July of last season, with Derbyshire recording a six-wicket victory at Cheltenham.

Gloucestershire scored a very competitive total of 356, with young Derbyshire bowler Tom Taylor claiming his first first-class five-wicket haul with figures of 5-58.

Derbyshire responded well and managed to earn a first-innings lead, with half-centuries for Ben Slater, Wayne Madsen, Shivnarine Chanderpaul and Wes Durston in their total of 372.

Gloucestershire were bowled out for 219 second time around, and that was after Derbyshire had reduced them to 40-4. David Wainwright took 3-62, while fellow spinner Wes Durston (2-22) and pace bowler Mark Footitt (2-50) also impressed.

That left Derbyshire chasing 208 runs for victory, and they got there for the loss of just four wickets, with Billy Godleman and Chanderpaul both hitting fifties to earn Derbyshire a win and 22 points.

  • W.G Grace was Gloucestershire’s first captain in 1870, a role he undertook for an astonishing 28 years.
