The bails on the landmark set of giant stumps will be made hollow to allow them to act as a time capsule, sealed with memorabilia celebrating the heritage of the county of Derbyshire.

The bails will be filled with five items signifying the county of Derbyshire, including a mini bat signed by the 2015 Derbyshire Women’s Cricket Team and a specially made item from Royal Crown Derby.

At the start of April, the Club formally announced its intention to bid for Derby to become a host city for the 2017 ICC Women’s World Cup.

As part of the announcement, the Club unveiled plans for a landmark set of giant cricket stumps, manufactured by Briggs of Burton, to be located at the gateway of the City on the Pentagon Roundabout.

The stumps will be funded by 100 local businesses together with a small number of private donors who will each pledge £500 to become part of the #WereBackingTheBid campaign. Over 30 businesses have already pledged their support and will be involved in the development, unveiling and publicity surrounding the sculpture as well as featuring on a Partners Plaque.

Chief Executive, Simon Storey said: “We are delighted with the response we have received from local businesses across Derbyshire, with over 30% of the overall total already achieved.

“The landmark set of giant stumps symbolises our commitment to the bid. The Women’s World Cup is a prestigious event which will promote the City of Derby as a great place to live, work, enjoy sport and as a great destination for visitors from across the world.”

To show your support and back the bid with a £500 pledge, please contact Maxine Holtam on 01332 388 121 or email [email protected].

For every business in Derbyshire that recruits a 16 to 18-year-old IT or Digital Marketing Apprentice in May or June through 3aaa, the company will pledge £500 to Derbyshire County Cricket Club’s #WereBackingTheBid campaign for Derby to become a host city at the 2017 Women’s Cricket World Cup.
