Tom Poynton was delighted to make his first team return last week and is hoping to continue his good form in the NatWest T20 Blast at Grace Road tomorrow.

The newly-appointed Derbyshire Falcons vice-captain returned to first team action in last week’s NatWest T20 Blast opener against Yorkshire Vikings at Headingley, and scored 27 from 18 balls including two sixes.

Poynton says it is vital not to underestimate Leicestershire Foxes tomorrow, who are three times winners of the competition, as Derbyshire look to register their first win of this year’s campaign.

“They are a threatening team, they’re often written off but they have had a good record in T20 cricket,” said Poynton.

“(Mark) Cosgrove is a threat and with the new management they have in place there they have got nothing to lose.

“There won’t be any sort of complacency from us and we’ve got to go out there and put in a very good performance to beat them.”

“We’re all excited, we’re going to go out there and play fearless cricket and hopefully come out with a good result and worry about what we can do really.”

Poynton says he is delighted to be back playing cricket after missing the entire 2014 season, and to be back in the dressing room alongside his teammates.

“It was great to be back playing in the big time I suppose, the NatWest T20 Blast is a fantastic competition.

“I am enjoying my cricket again and to be back in the first team was great for me and is something that I have pushed for, for a long time.

“Always when you walk back into the team it is easy really, they are so accommodating. There is no split between the first team and the second team and that says a lot about our changing room and it’s great to be in there.

“I’m excited and hopefully I can add some good value to Wes (Durston) and help us start well in this competition.”

The Falcons host their first home NatWest T20 Blast fixture on Friday 29 May (7pm start) against Lancashire Lightning at The 3aaa County Ground.
