Shiv Thakor scored his first century in a Derbyshire shirt before Alex Hughes finished the day unbeaten on 148 as Derbyshire Seconds enjoyed a good Day One versus Durham.
The pair shared a stand worth 125 runs for the fourth wicket before Hughes battled on with Harvey Hosein to record another century partnership in the Second XI Championship match at Belper Meadows.
Despite being asked to bat first after skipper Hughes had lost the toss, Derbyshire batted well to end Day One in a good position on 393-6.
Derbyshire lost Jonathan Clare (0) and Scott Elstone (12) early into their innings but George Sellers scored 33 alongside Thakor to take the score to 96 before he was caught off the bowling of Jamie Harrison.
That brought Hughes to the crease who helped Thakor take Derbyshire past 200, adding 125 runs inside 25 overs. Thakor brought up his century from just 130 balls, having scored 10 fours, before he was run out on 108.
Thakor’s dismissal did not stem the flow of runs as Hughes continued to play positively with Hosein and reached his century from 180 balls during a 112-run partnership with Derbyshire’s wicketkeeper.
Hosein was out for 35 and then Tom Knight fell on 15 but Hughes stood firm to end Day One on 148 not out whilst Greg Cork was there on 4 not out in Derbyshire’s 393-6.
