Due to severe weather overnight which has damaged the covers, water got on one end of the wicket and no play was possible on Day Three versus Gloucestershire.

Strong winds blew parts of the covers off the pitch during the night and rain got on one end of the wicket. After several inspections throughout the day, the umpires confirmed at 3.15pm that there would be no play in the day.

The forecast for Day Four is much improved but the problem area at one end of the strip will have to be inspected again in the morning.

Elite Performance Director, Graeme Welch said: “There was a severe weather warning issued for overnight on Monday and when we got to the ground this morning, it wasn’t fit for play.

“We had a similar problem at Cardiff earlier in the season and that was on a smaller area. This one is where the bowlers feet are landing and, put it this way, if my bowlers had been due to run in I wouldn’t have wanted them to bowl on that, it’s quite dangerous.”
