All-rounder Shiv Thakor is relishing his first taste of the Autoworld Volvo XC90 Chesterfield Festival of Cricket, in association with Chesterfield Borough Council this weekend.
The festival begins with a NatWest T20 Blast clash versus Northamptonshire Steelbacks on Sunday 5 July, 2.30pm start, before the focus then switches to the LV= County Championship the following day when Glamorgan arrive for the start of a four-day fixture.
The festival concludes with the eagerly-awaited local derby against Yorkshire Vikings on Sunday 12 July; 2.30pm.
Thakor is in his first season at Derbyshire after arriving from Leicestershire at the end of 2014, and he says he has only heard good things about the picturesque setting of Chesterfield and the atmosphere that is generated.
“I’ve heard plenty about Chesterfield from all of the lads, the coaches and some of the supporters as well – they have said it is a fantastic experience,” said Thakor.
“All of the people haven’t been able to speak highly enough of the place and I’m very much looking forward to the festival beginning.
“I’ve been told it is a brilliant atmosphere at a really nice ground and the crowd really get behind you so it will be an exciting week.
“It is also going to be a crucial week in terms of our season, in the LV= County Championship match against Glamorgan we are looking to get back on the horse after a couple of disappointing defeats.
“The T20’s versus Northants and Yorkshire also very important for us, they are two must-win games if we are to stay in the competition.
“We know everyone at Chesterfield will get behind us and we all can’t wait to get started.”
