Following discussions with the ECB and Cricket Australia, the Club can confirm that this week’s Bell & Co Tourist Fixture between Derbyshire and Australia at The 3aaa County Ground will be a first-class fixture.
The three-day match, which begins on Thursday 23 July, is the first first-class fixture against a touring Australian side since 2012 in a match when Tony Palladino hit his maiden first-class century.
The fixture at Derby follows the second Investec Ashes Test at Lord’s where Australia levelled the series with a 405-run win over England. The third Test at Edgbaston follows next week.
Matchday tickets and a limited number of Hospitality Packages are still available for all three days and supporters can save £4 per ticket by purchasing in advance.
Chief Executive, Simon Storey said: “It is great news that we have been able to secure first class status for this week’s fixture.
“We’re set for three fantastic days of competitive cricket in the midst of what has already is turning into a fascinating Ashes series. We are delighted that ECB and Cricket Australia have agreed to recognise the match in this way.
“As well as giving spectators the opportunity to see the Australian tourists live, the fixture will also provide the opportunity for local schoolchildren to see some of the best cricketers in the as they break up for the summer holidays.
“Coming on the back of our Women’s World Cup bid, this is more good news for the City of Derby due to the added international exposure from hosting the Tourist visit in the midst of such a high profile Ashes Series.
“We are all looking forward to three good days at The 3aaa County Ground.”
