Chesney Hughes hit 117 and claimed two wickets as Derbyshire Second XI defeated Worcestershire by 81 runs in a 50-over match at Worcestershire Royal Grammar School.

Derbyshire batted first after winning the toss and scored 254-9 from their 50 overs thanks largely to Hughes’ efforts and Shiv Thakor, who scored 43 in a fourth-wicket partnership worth 113 with Hughes.

Worcestershire were bowled out for 173 inside 40 overs with Chesney Hughes (2-16) and Ben Cotton (2-33) taking two wickets apiece.

There was also a wicket each for Mark Footitt, Shiv Thakor, Matt Critchley, Alex Hughes, Wes Durston and Adam Wheatcroft as Derbyshire prepared for the start of the Royal London One-Day campaign against Somerset at Taunton on Sunday.
