Greg Cork returned match figures of 8-67 as Derbyshire’s Second XI defeated Kent by three wickets in a three-day friendly at Canterbury.

Kent made 352-9 in their first innings after winning the toss and batting first with Cork taking 4-47 from 20 overs, ably backed up by Robert Peat (2-30) and Scott Elstone (2-81) who claimed two wickets apiece.

Derbyshire responded with a total of 321 with half-centuries for Tom Poynton (89), Ben Slater (68) and Sam Arthurton (60), before Cork then showed his capabilities with the ball again in the second innings.

He blew away four of Kent’s top five to claim 4-20 from 15 overs, with Wayne White also amongst the wickets as he bagged 4-32 to dismiss Kent for 112 second time around.

Chasing 147 to win on the third and final day, Derbyshire were put under pressure as England international James Tredwell took four wickets to leave the game in the balance.

But following useful contributions from Elstone (34), Jonathan Clare (28) and Tom Knight (26), Derbyshire reached their victory target with three wickets as Matt Critchley and Cork saw their side over the line.
